Q-C-Q #4

The quote that stood out to me was, “Too many biologists have wrongly concluded…with no room for free will.” I found this interesting because I have never heard of evolution being thought of in this way. This is a very interesting take on the concept of free will in relation to human biology. This quote is also very troubling because there isn’t any reasoning in the passage to back this up. Wilkinson then goes on to challenge this view that is held by many scientists.

I can connect the part of the passage about finding examples of bad people and heroes to our world. Serial killers and criminals are often getting documentaries made about them and having their stories shared. When I open Netflix and look at the documentaries tab, most of them are about these bad people, and I rarely see ones about heroes being promoted. The text says it’s easy to come up with examples of bad people, and I think that their prevalence in our media is why that is so easy.

Do you think we can choose to be altruistic?
