2-1-Q #6

The first panel that stood out to me is the one on the bottom right of page 126. It depicts a camp with tanks and a bunch of small houses. The text on the pays says that this is a maximum-security camp that was guarded by troops ready for battle and it had machine-gun towers surrounding it. This is extremely different from the camp that we have seen in the beginning of the novel. The second panel that I found interesting is the middle one on page 134. Young men in the new camp had started to protest against the abuse and inhumane treatments they have faced in the wake of Pearl Harbor. The text on the panel says that the young men were feeling betrayed by their own country, so they joined “the enemy”.

Even after giving out the questionnaire to the Japanese Americans in internment camps, the ones who were seen as loyal to America were still not released. There was a lot of support from American citizens to let them return to the West Coast. With the upcoming election, Roosevelt put this decision off. https://densho.org/catalyst/terrorism-1945-style/

Do you think the young men in the camp had actually started to support Japan, or was it just a form of protest?
