2-1-Q #8

The first panel that stood out to me was the one on the bottom right of page 167. George’s family had left the camps and was now living in the dangerous area of Skid Row. The panel shows George’s little sister scared and asking their mom to go back home. The text on the panel says that the home she meant was the internment camp. I thought this was important because it shows how the camp is the only home his sister has ever known since she was a baby when they went. The second panel I want to focus on is the middle one on page 189. The panel depicts Takei as his Star Trek character. The text on the panel says that the show was an opportunity for him to represent his heritage to a large audience. Growing up, George had only seen Japanese people being discriminated against, so this is a big change.

Trump v. Hawaii was a Supreme Court case in 2018. The court ruled that 8 countries had deficiencies in their information on whether or not immigrants would pose a security threat. These countries were given 50 days to improve or else there would be entry restrictions to America placed on them. https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/17pdf/17-965_h315.pdf

Why do you think that George is more forgiving than his father?
