QCQ #2
A quote from the passage that I found interesting was, “At times, while reading a graphic novel, we can lose sight of the fact that we are looking at a page.” I chose this quote because I can relate to it. I’ve never been a fan of graphic novels and I find when I have to read them that I tend to skim the pages and only glance at the pictures. The paragraph that this quote begins touches on how students have a tendency to not pay attention to the pictures in graphic novels. The visual element in a text often feels unimportant to some readers, especially those who don’t prefer those types of novels, so they don’t see these vital parts of the story contained in it.
The part of the passage discussing how the authors of graphic novels have a tight control over how their readers travel their eyes across the page relates a lot to reading in school. In classes, teachers often see the hidden meaning of a text as being only one possible interpretation and not seeing any other views as being right. The way that the authors of graphic novels steer the readers’ interpretation through the order they read reminds me of that.
Do you think that graphic novels are easier to read than regular novels?
